From: "Lindmeyr, Johann VS T1" To: "'IEEE802.1'" Subject: VLAN tagging and classification Date: Thu, 30 Nov 95 12:14:00 PST Dear Colleagues, I would like to give some remarks regarding to the previous contributions in 802.1. VLAN tagging is of course an important point in the area of VLAN identification over the backbone. I agree with several suggestions to separate this topic from the 802.10 background because I guess it is not useful to mix different purposes in such an early step of working. Moreover, I'm a little bit confused about the priority given to port-based VLANs. I'm not sure where in port based VLANs the real "VLAN benefits" are. I apologize for this question but where are the real VLAN aspects and advantages in the port based approach. Port based VLAN is a pretty static technique and I can't see any reasons for tagging in this case.
