There is considerable editorial change to 802.1's final draft. In most cases, these improved the document. However, I suspect the sheer number of editing changes may have made it easier for the technical errors to slip by. I have the attached items to offer for inclusion in an errata sheet. If anyone else has a correction I've missed, please circulate it via the exploder at your earliest convenience. Kristin will be back in the Standards Department office at the end of the week and ready to get moving on this; the sooner it gets out, the less damage done. Regards to all, Hal ================ attachment ============= Proposed Contents of Errata Sheet --------------------------------- 1. The errata sheet should contain a replacement copy of Figure 6 (top of page 8), with the following corrections: - The third-row entry in the middle column (headed "IEEE 802 or FDDI LAN") should read the same as the first-row entry in that column. Specifically, replace "tunnel-encoded (SNAP OUI 00-00-F8)" with "RFC1042-encoded (SNAP OUI 00-00-00)" in that entry (but not in the second row of the table). - The text for footnote 'a' should read, "This table entry matches that in Bridge 2, but is not used in transferring this frame." - The text for footnote 'b' should read, "This table entry matches that in Bridge 1, but is not used in transferring this frame." 2. The errata sheet should also contain a replacement for the first line on page 14, with "IEEE 802.3" corrected to one of the following (editor's choice, but the reference must be to the correct standard): "IEEE 802.2" "ISO/IEC 8802-2" "ISO/IEC 8802-2 : 1994" Explanations ------------ The Figure 6 table entry is simply incorrect, and must be fixed to make the Recommended Practice work at all. The final Working Group draft has a single footnote to Figure 6, which reads, "This entry shown matching that in peer bridge, but not used in transferring this frame." The published version introduced two problems: - It attempted to separate the two instances as distinct footnotes, but got the "peer bridge" numbers mixed. - It also replaced "shown matching" with "needs to match," which may be easier to read but dilutes the point. The single word "matches" will do nicely. The correction to the first line on page 14 fixes a reference which appears to have been subjected to a mistaken editorial "correction."
