Date: Mon, 10 Jun 1996 00:13:06 -0400 () From: Bob Watson To: Jo Ann Larson Cc: p8021@hepnrc.hep.net SUBJECT: P802.1p/D3 - Traffic Class and Dynamic Multicast Filtering Services in Bridged LANs __X__ I disapprove for the following reasons. Bob Watson COMMENTS Page 12, lines 48-51 I prefer that the terms "server" and "client" not be used. Maybe "originating host" and "joining hosts". This protocol is not restricted to client/server systems. Page 18, line 24 Change START_ADDRES to START_ADDRESS. Section 3.9.3.2, page 27, lines 47-51 I am confused by the word "optional". I understand that a cost reduced bridge can be implemented which has no "user_priority" and that this is truly optional. I do not understand the other "optional" statements on lines 49 & 50. This comment also applies to multiple other sections such as 6.7.5.5.2, 6.7.5.7.3, and 6.7.5.8.3. This will become clearer once the PICS is complete, but I do not see which items will be mandatory and which are truly "optional". I don't understand how a manufacturer will communicate succinctly which features are included. Please include some guidance either in Clause 2 or 9. Page 45, Figure 9-2 "LLC" appears in five places. Really is today's world this is not necessarily LLC -- it is just the Data Link Layer. Bob Watson Connectware, Inc. 919-481-5017 rcw@rtp.connectware.com
