Re: [STDS-802-11-TGAY] Call for agenda items on the December 5th teleconference call

Carlos, I apologize in advance, as I’m not entirely familiar with the process.  However, and with respect, I agree with Chris’ assertion that this feature is outside of the scope of the PAR.  The original PAR document says nothing about radar, ranging, or anything related to target detection.  After having a quick look at Alec’s first document, I’m not sure how adding this feature would help us with the PAR’s stated purpose of “[providing] wireless connectivity for fixed, portable, and moving stations within a local area.”

Thank you,

Nelson.

I respectfully disagree with Chris. We have not even seen the material yet – how can we argue whether it is a new topic, whether it changes the spec, how much, whether it violates the PAR, etc.?

We should not try and stop people from presenting.

Thanks,

Carlos.

Hi Edward,

I respectfully disagree.  Teleconferences are an inconvenience and should only be scheduled when necessary. The focus of the task group now is to get our draft in shape for sponsor ballot.  Discussion of new technology that is not tied to a letter ballot comment, and probably not even within the scope of the PAR, is a distraction to the group and plainly out of order.

As you mention, WLAN radar is a new topic.  Therefore, the appropriate forum for this presentation would be the WNG Standing Committee, not a task group that is preparing a draft for sponsor ballot.  If we want to open up 802.11ay to new technology at this stage, I would suggest that in the January session we allocate time for that discussion and that we allocate further time for a review of the impact on our timeline.

This task group has already fallen behind schedule and has had to revise its timeline.  I do not understand why we are discussing new features at this stage.  It does not appear to be in the interest of the task group, the working group, or the IEEE Standards Association.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your comment.  While we the task group has a consensus that any comment resolution submission is of higher priority than the other contributions, there is no comment resolution document being scheduled for the call tomorrow.

Alecs' contribution on WLAN radar is IMHO a new topic and it will take some time to discuss and decide whether to be included in the draft.  I would allow him to present and the group can discuss on more details in future calls/meetings.

Edward

If we have agenda time during the call, why not hear the presentation? It is not like we have comment resolution that will take the entire call.

I have not seen the material, but I am definitely interested to see and hear the topic.

Carlos.

Hi Edward,

Unless these contributions are addressing a resolution to a CID, I'd suggest we delay the presentation until after the task group has resolved all the CIDs and we are ready for the re-circulation ballot.  We could schedule this presentation for a later slot in the January meeting.

Thanks.

Will need about 25min to present + discussion time.

Thank you,
