Harry, Volker,
Would you like to perhaps schedule a conference call sometime w/c 17 Feb. to try and find a slot that works for everyone to consider this proposal?
Kind regards,
Nikola

Hi Volker,

After thinking about it more, I am more convinced that the right approach is to bring back the PLCP sublayer that was present in older versions of 802.11, and update this sublayer to support the G.9991 MAC, and the 802.11a MAC.  For example, a PLCP sublayer that sits below the PMI interface in G.9991 seems appropriate.  These baseline options should be the first goal.  We can always include flexibility for future updates that add support for more MAC layers.

I would like to discuss how to get started with the first goal with the Q18/15 people.  Preferably we can meet face-to-face the week prior to the IEEE 802 meeting.  However, we can schedule conference calls prior to that if others are willing to do that.

Regards,

Harry

Dear Nikola, all,

the coexistence and integration of G.9991 issues have been discussed in today’s ITU-T Q18/15 meeting. Both issues were noted as valid points and they created an initial discussion in the room.

Regarding the coexistence workshop, people need to discuss this with their affiliations first, before they can provide an answer.

Regarding G.9991 integration, it was suggested to develop a MAC proposal to be send to TGbb coming out of the Q18/15 group, maybe with the help of an 802.11 MAC expert. The expert could be nominated by TGbb and attend their next meeting scheduled 20-23 April in Eindhoven/Netherlands. Alternatively, we could held an ad-hoc e.g. in Berlin at HHI, immediately in the week before the Mai meeting of IEEE, which would reduce traveling efforts.

@Harry: Would you volunteer as the expert from IEEE side? What would be your favourite approach to interact with Q18/15 people?

The question about the coex workshop will be raised again in a forthcoming Q18/15 telco. I have asked Les for feedback before the end of our March meeting.

Best regards - Volker
