[STDS-802-11-TGM] 11me/D4.0 CID 6431 (how EDCA params change is signalled in a DMG BSS)

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector ---

Hello,

CID 6431 says that:

"A QoS STA shall use the EDCA Parameter Set Update Count subfield(11ax) in the QoS Capability element of Beacon frames, when present, to determine whether the STA is using the current EDCA parameters. If the EDCA Parameter Set Update Count subfield in the QoS Capability element is different from the value that has been stored, the QoS STA shall query the updated EDCA parameters by sending a Probe Request frame to the AP." -- what about DMG STAs?  Note no QoS Cap in Announce frames so not clear how a DMG STA finds out

and suggests:

Change to "A QoS STA shall use the EDCA Parameter Set Update Count subfield(11ax) in the QoS Capability element of Beacon and DMG Beacon frames, when present, to determine whether the STA is using the current EDCA parameters. If the EDCA Parameter Set Update Count subfield in the QoS Capability element is different from the value that has been stored, the QoS STA shall query the updated EDCA parameters by sending a Probe Request frame to the AP." and add the QoS Capability field to Announce frames

However, this means adding a field to an existing frame, so doesn't

help with existing implementations.

Maybe DMG APs should be required to send DMG Beacon frames (rather than

Announce frames) for enough time (how much would that be?) for all STAs

to see at least one of them, whenever the EDCA parameters change?

An alternative would be to say that EDCA parameters can't be changed

in a DMG BSS.  Is this preferable?

Thanks,

Mark
