Re: [STDS-802-11-TGM] 11me/D5.0 CID 7195 ("BSS configuration")

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Task Group M Technical Reflector ---

Hi Mark,

The occurrence cited in 11.1.3.8.3 can be replaced with ‘… any updates to the configuration of its associated BSS)…’

So, the updated text would look as follows:

An EMA AP that includes a partial list of nontransmitted BSSID profiles in its Beacon frame, S1G Beacon frame, or DMG Beacon frame, shall advertise a particular nontransmitted BSSID profile in a repeating pattern such that the profile is present in at least one beacon in a sequence of beacons indicated by the Full Set Rx Periodicity field of the Multiple BSSID Configuration element, unless the membership of the multiple BSSID set changes. An EMA AP shall include a nontransmitted BSSID profile in the DTIM beacon of that BSS so that STAs associated to that AP can receive the profile (and any updates to the configuration of its associated BSS configuration) without having to transition to awake state(#6038) to receive additional beacons. An EMA AP shall select the DTIM interval for a nontransmitted BSSID as a multiple of the value carried in the Full Set Rx Periodicity field of the Multiple BSSID Configuration element. Annex AA provides several example configurations.

Regards,
Abhi

Subject: 11me/D5.0 CID 7195 ("BSS configuration")

CID 7195 says:

The term "BSS configuration" is used but not defined

and asks for the term to be defined.

The term appears as follows:

11.1.3.8.3 Discovery of a nontransmitted BSSID profile(11ax)

An EMA AP that includes a partial list of nontransmitted BSSID profiles in its Beacon frame, S1G Beacon frame, or DMG Beacon frame, shall advertise a particular nontransmitted BSSID profile in a repeating pattern such that the profile is present in at least one beacon in a sequence of beacons indicated by the Full Set Rx Periodicity field of the Multiple BSSID Configuration element, unless the membership of the multiple BSSID set changes. An EMA AP shall include a nontransmitted BSSID profile in the DTIM beacon of that BSS so that STAs associated to that AP can receive the profile (and any updates to the BSS configuration) without having to transition to awake state(#6038) to receive additional beacons. An EMA AP shall select the DTIM interval for a nontransmitted BSSID as a multiple of the value carried in the Full Set Rx Periodicity field of the Multiple BSSID Configuration element. Annex AA provides several example configurations.

11.31.3 FST setup protocol

11.31.3.2 Transitioning between states

c) The initiator shall send an FST Ack Request frame or may send any other individually addressed MPDU to the responder.

NOTE 1—Depending on the BSS configuration in the new band/channel, the initiator might have to associate and/or authenticate with the BSS before it is allowed to transmit a frame to the responder.

d) Upon receipt of an FST Ack Request frame, the responder shall respond to the initiator with an FST Ack Response frame.

NOTE 2—Depending on the BSS configuration in the new band/channel, the responder might have to associate and/or authenticate with the BSS before it is allowed to transmit a frame to the initiator.

14.3 Mesh discovery

14.3.1 General

A mesh profile, a set of parameters identifying the mesh BSS configuration, is also obtained through the scanning process

[There is also a "BSS Configuration Parameter Set" (note capitalisation),

which only seems to be defined as "a set of elements of the Beacon frame

or the Probe Response frame [with certain specifically identified] dynamic

elements […] excluded".]

Would you be able to give a definition of "BSS configuration"?  Is

a "BSS configuration" the same thing as a "BSS Configuration Parameter

Set" (the latter being an 11ai thing)?

Thanks,

Mark
