[STDS-802-11] Call for contributions - Random and Changing MAC address, and other privacy concerns

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

All,

As a reminder, at the January session, the Working Group approved a request to form a Study Group, with the intent of producing 2 PARs and CSDs, to work on amendments to 802.11 to “improve the user experience in environments where non-AP STAs use random/changing MAC addresses” and “to improve user privacy.”

During the March session, the Study Group will not have been approved yet (the EC needs to meet F2F to approve a SG).  So, the RCM ad hoc will continue to do the work informally, if/as there are any contributions to consider.

Thus, this call for any contributions and discussion on the topics:

  • First priority – contributions of material in support of the PARs and CSDs for these projects, to help the Study Group move quickly (presumably in May).  In particular, we need to formulate the scope and purpose/need for the projects, and address the CSD questions.
  • Second priority – contributions or discussion documents on the technical topics, in optimistic anticipation that the PARs will be approved (this is getting ahead of things, but we can use the meeting times as an opportunity for those with an interest to continue these discussions, as desired, and AFTER THE PAR/CSD WORK HAS BEEN CONSIDERED!)

Thanks.  Mark
