OverviewThe IEEE 802.15 Task Group 4e is chartered to define a MAC amendment to the existing standard 802.15.4-2006. The intent of this amendment is to enhance and add functionality to the 802.15.4-2006 MAC to a) better support the industrial markets and b) permit compatibility with modifications being proposed within the Chinese WPAN. Current Status
TG4e has just
sent out a call for proposals (15-08-373)
with preliminary proposals being heard at the July session and final
proposals at the September session. TG4e has defined categories of
interest along with subject matter for each category. In addition to the industrial markets and Chinese WPAN, TG4e has discussed the high level requirements of Smart Grid and finds them synergistic with Industrial requirements at this point. Smart Grid is a result of a new US law: Energy Independence Act of 2007. This law deals with the modernization of the Nation’s electricity transmission and distribution system to maintain a reliable and secure electricity infrastructure that can meet future demand growth and to achieve each of the following, which together characterize a Smart Grid.
