Overview

The purpose of TG4j is to create an amendment to 802.15.4 which defines a physical layer for IEEE 802.15.4 in the 2360 to 2400 MHz band and complies with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) MBAN rules. This amendment may also define modifications to the MAC needed to support this new physical layer.

Current Status

TG4j received NesCom approval December 7th 2010. The TG4j PAR can be viewed here. TG4j held its first meeting at the 802 Interim meeting in Los Angeles January 2011. During this meeting the group agreed to technical requirements and issued a Call for Applications.

Technical Requirements were agreed to at the March 2011 meeting.

A Call for Proposals was issued March 17th 2011. Preliminary proposals were presented at the May meeting, in Palm Springs, May 8th to 13th 2011. Final proposals were presented at the July plenary meeting in San Francisco, July 17th to 22nd.

Final agreement on the features of the amendment were agreed to during the March, 2012 meeting in Waikoloa, March 11th to 16th. Letter Ballot #81 was approved by the Work Group, opened on March 28, 2012 and closed on April 27, 2012. The Letter Ballot passed with 90.83% Yes votes and generated 575 comments. There were 2 recirculations of the letter ballot, Letter Ballot #82 and Letter Ballot #84, both of which also passed. There were no new comments on the final recirculation ballot and no remaining NO votes.

The Work Group asked the Executive Committee to approve the amendment for Sponsor Ballot at the Sept 2012 meeting in Palm Springs, Sept 16-20. The EC approved the amendment to go to Sponsor Ballot on Oct 9, 2012 and the Sponsor Ballot began on that day and closed on Nov 8. There were 2 recirculations of the Sponsor Ballot in Nov and Dec of 2013. The Sponsor Ballot process completed in Dec 2012.

RevCom recommended the P802.15.4j Amendment for approval for publication to the IEEE Standards Association on Jan 23, 2013 and it was approved as a new standard on Feb 7, 2013.
