Overview

The IEEE 802.15 Task Group 6 (BAN) is developing a communication standard optimized for low power devices and operation on, in or around the human body (but not limited to humans) to serve a variety of applications including medical,  consumer electronics / personal entertainment and others.

Current Status

IEEE 802.15 TG6 was formed in November 2007 and begun operations as TG6 in January 2008 in Taipei.

It had received 34 proposals, which were merged into a single candidate proposal. A draft of the standard was developed in March 2009.

It has undergone significant editing and underwent five Letter Ballots. The last was Letter Ballot #79.

Letter Ballot 79

TG6 completed a recirculation letter ballot 79 on July 13, 2011.

The aggregate results of LB79 were:

  • VOTERS               199
  • VOTED                  181
  • YES                       154
  • ABSTAIN                 11
  • NO                           16
  • % VOTERS          90.95%
  • % YES                  90.59%
  • % ABSTAIN          6.08%

There were no new "do not approve" voters, nor were there new comments received from "do not approve" voters.

On July 22, 2011, the draft was approved to start Sponsor Ballot.
