IEEE 802.16 Session #100 Report

IEEE 802.16 Logo

IEEE 802.16's Session #100 was held on 10-12 November 2016 in Dallas, TX, USA. This Working Group (WG) plenary session was co-located with the IEEE 802 Plenary. The attendance list is posted.

GRIDMAN Task Group and Narrowband Activity

The Working Group addressed comments on a draft P802.16s PAR for a new project specifying operation of existing IEEE Std 802.16 WirelessMAN-OFDMA systems in narrower channel allocations. As a result of the comment resolution, a revised draft P802.16s PAR and associated CSD statement were prepared. However, the revised PAR was not approved by the IEEE 802 Executive Committee for forwarding to the IEEE-SA Standards Board. Further discussions on the draft PAR are planned for Session #101 in January, at which time a revised proposal may be developed.

Project P802.16.3: Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements

The IEEE 802 Executive Committee accepted the Working Group's request to proceed with withdrawal of the P802.16.3 PAR. Final action by the IEEE-SA Standards Board is expected in February 2016.

High-Rate Rail Communications

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group continues to co-sponsor the High Rate Rail Communications (HRRC) Interest Group of the IEEE 802.15 Working Group. The HRRC IG considered further contributions. It will next meet during Session #102.

About IEEE 802.16
The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards has developed and is responsible for maintaining the WirelessMAN® standards of IEEE 802.16 and 802.16.1 for wireless metropolitan area networks. The IEEE 802.16 Working Group is a unit of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee, the premier transnational forum for wired and wireless network standardization. A list of IEEE 802.16 standards and drafts is available on-line, as is an archive of previous Session Reports. The IEEE 802.16 Interactive Calendar includes sessions and deadlines.

"802.16 News" Mailing List
The "802.16 News" mailing list ("stds-802-16-news") has the sole purpose of distributing major announcements related to the Working Group. Those interested in following the progress of the group but not in the day-to-day details may wish to subscribe. Only the Working Group Chair is eligible to post to the list, and mailings will be rare: once after each bimonthly session and additionally for major news, such as the approval of a new standard. Those subscribing to the stds-802-16 mailing list, for active Working Group participants, need not subscribe to stds-802-16-news since the postings will be redundant.
