IEEE 802.16 Logo

IEEE 802.16's Session #84 was held on 18-21 March 2013 in Orlando, FL, USA. This Working Group (WG) plenary session was co-located with the IEEE 802 Plenary. The attendance list is posted.

GRIDMAN Task Group

The two drafts developed by the Working Group's GRIDMAN Task Group were approved, as anticipated, by the IEEE-SA Standards Board on 6 March 2013. The two new IEEE standards are:

Project P802.16r: Small Cell Backhaul with Carrier Ethernet

Meeting its second session, Project P802.16r reviewed contributions and developed a statement to the MEF. A Call for Contributions and a closing report were issued. Two teleconference meetings were scheduled, on 17 April and 1 May (1400 UTC); for details see the P802.16r teleconference notices. (Note: The Call for Contributions was updated following the 17 April teleconference.)

Project P802.16.3: Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements

Project P802.16.3 reviewed contributions and developed statements to the IETF and to the Broadband Forum. A Call for Contributions and a closing report were issued. The Call for Contributions introduces an intent to coordinate participants implementing measurement systems in accordance with the P802.16.3 architecture, per the IEEE 802.16.3 Architecture and Requirements for Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements working document. Prospective participants are invited to contribute documentation for consideration at Session #85.

Project P802.16q: Multi-Tier Amendment

Project P802.16q met briefly. A Call for Contributions was issued towards Session #85.

ITU-R Liaison Group

The ITU-R Liaison Group drafted two contributions to ITU-R WP 5D. The contributions were cleared through IEEE procedures for submission to ITU. The group developed a statement to the WATO members. A closing report was issued.

Project Planning Committee

The WG's Project Planning Committee met briefly and issued a closing report.

OmniRAN

The IEEE 802 OmniRAN EC Study Group, which originated in the IEEE 802.16 HetNet Study Group, held its second session. It was renewed through the July 2013 IEEE 802 Plenary.

About IEEE 802.16
The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards has developed and is enhancing the WirelessMAN® standards of IEEE 802.16 and 802.16.1 for wireless metropolitan area networks. It is also developing the IEEE P802.16.3 project on Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements. The IEEE 802.16 Working Group is a unit of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee, the premier transnational forum for wired and wireless network standardization. A list of IEEE 802.16 standards and drafts is available on-line, as is an archive of previous Session Reports. The IEEE 802.16 Interactive Calendar includes sessions and deadlines.

"802.16 News" Mailing List
The "802.16 News" mailing list ("stds-802-16-news") has the sole purpose of distributing major announcements related to the Working Group. Those interested in following the progress of the group but not in the day-to-day details may wish to subscribe. Only the Working Group Chair is eligible to post to the list, and mailings will be rare: once after each bimonthly session and additionally for major news, such as the approval of a new standard. Those subscribing to the stds-802-16 mailing list, for active Working Group participants, need not subscribe to stds-802-16-news since the postings will be redundant.
