[RPRWG] Network for Portland

RPRWGers,

I have secured (and properly configured after much pain)
1) a laptop with a web-server and a dhcp server
2) An Aironet 340 11 Mbps 802.11 access point
3) a 4 port and an 8 port hub
4) some cables to connect them

This is an interim solution until we agree to spend money to
buy some more equipment. (I will do a presentation on this
and hope to have a motion passed to collect fees at the
next meeting(s) to pay for the installation).

I have tested my PC with the wireless card and successfully
associated to the access point and then http'd to the web-server.
So I suspect other's will be able to as well.

This gives us wired connectivity for 9 people and a large
number of wireless people. I suggest that people bring a
standard ethernet cable if they want to use the server to
grab the latest files.

I do not believe that 802 is paying for internet access at
this meeting. So there is somewhat limited use of the network.
Part of the discussion is whether the expense is worth it.

cheers,

mike
