RE: [802.21] Super3G and 802.21?

Hi folks,
I would suggest we avoid using the term Super3G, since it is rather misleading. Super3G is the name used by some companies for the evolution of the 3GPP UTRAN, but it's not the official name of any standardization effort. There is not 3GPP work item called Super3G, but there is a work item approved in 3GPP RAN for the evolution of UTRAN, we should refer to that in this discussion. I agree that this is very relevant to 802.21, and a very good recipient for 802.21 results.

There are lots of news reports on Super3G, for example http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2005/0110053gpp.html.

From the descriptions, and clause 2.1.4 of the 3GPP report at http://www.3gpp.org/ftp/tsg_ran/TSG_RAN/TSGR_26/Docs/PDF/RP-040496.pdf it would seem this is an effort to improve efficiency/throughput between the MS and the base station - possibly incorporating WLAN as one physical layer.

It's being seen as a counter to 802.16.  However, if they are considering seamless handover between multiple physical layers, it would seem to be of direct interest to this group.
