[Fwd: IEEE CONFERENCE ON PRODUCT CERTIFICATION & CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT REGISTRATION NOW OPEN]

The third item of the third bullet under "Who Should Attend" includes "standards groups" just in time as 802.21 specification is finished.

Maybe 802.21 will be interested in this area as a path forward though it's just the first conference for the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program and website content is quite empty.

Just a thought.

Cheers,
Alice

IEEE CONFERENCE ON PRODUCT CERTIFICATION & CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

The IEEE Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 1st annual IEEE Conference on Product Certification and Conformity Assessment. The conference will take place 1-2 June 2009, at the IEEE Conference Center, located at its Piscataway, New Jersey headquarters.

Conference Registration is now open. The conference registration fee is US$350, which includes breakfast, lunch and breaks each day, as well as an evening networking reception and copies of presentation materials.

The conference is being organized by the ISTO, in collaboration with the IEEE Standards Association, as a part of their joint initiative on supporting industry conformity assessment activities. This initiative operates as the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP), providing support to IEEE members and standards development groups in helping accelerate the implementation of new standards and technologies through conformity assessment activities and programs.

Invited speakers span a range of industries and technology areas, as well as varying perspectives including industry consortia, government/regulatory, independent test labs, manufacturers and end users. The detailed conference agenda is being finalized, with speakers expected to participate coming from organizations including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the WiFi Alliance, the WiMax Forum, CTIA, Verizon Wireless, the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Laboratory, AT&T, the Green Electronics Council, Intertek, OmniAir, IEEE and the IEEE-ISTO.

The conference focuses on the benefits and drivers behind certification and conformity programs, and the diverse processes used across industry for these programs including:

    • Technical Criteria Selection – Use of national/international standards vs. program specific criteria or a blend of various standards – and why

    • Test Laboratory Selection Considerations – Lab approval processes, required accreditations, and ongoing post-approval lab quality surveillance

    • Post-certification processes to assure ongoing conformance to program criteria

Panel discussions are also planned to help engage attendees with the speakers in discussing industry program needs, best practices and lessons learned, and approaches to enhance market acceptance.

Who Should Attend

    • Operators of industry certification programs to enable the opportunity to network with peers, gain insight to the variety of certification program approaches, and collectively discuss best practices in certification and conformity assessment

    • Product manufacturers needing to learn more about processes and benefits of certification programs that add value to their products, as well as to share their experiences in past programs to help align their needs with available industry programs

    • Companies, consortia and standards groups considering the creation of a certification program for standards and technologies of interest

    • Conformance and Certification testing organizations and personnel wishing to get a better understanding of industry needs, expectations and opportunities
