[802.3_100GCU] To clarify EEE spec issue in 802.3bj draft standard document

Dear Sir,

Regarding EEE spec. in 802.3bj draft standard document (D2.3), We have some issues to be clarified as following :

In P802.3bj/D2.3 draft, 83A.3.4.7 (Global energy detect function) has the following description:

“If no energy is being received on the XLAUI/CAUI for the ingress direction SIGNAL_DETECT is set to FAIL following a transition from rx_mode = DATA to rx_mode = QUIET.”

We think it means SIGNAL_DETECT should be set FAIL if both “no energy” and “rx_mode = DATA to rx_mode = QUIET” are true.

But in LPI Receive state diagram (Figure 82–17),  it defines state machine from RX_SLEEP to RX_QUIET must meet “!rx_align_status”, and not considering “no energy”.

When RX in RX_SLEEP state, if received signals is not aligned but energy still be detected, the RX state machine should  go to RX_QUIET according to the state diagram.

We are confused between this and the above description of 83A.3.4.7.

Should we add “no energy input” into the criteria for state from RX_SLEEP to RX_QUIET?

Please comment.

Thanks.

Regards,

Vincent
