Re: [10GMMF] Task2 and 4 launch study meeting minutes for Jan 2nd 2005

Jonathan,
Jonathan,

A question for clarification:

Slide 4 notes that "The standard will specify the MCP as the preferred launch (for example for OM1) and centre launch as an alternative launch. In the field it was expected that CL would be used first, then MCP if needed, as in 1GigE."

I guess I was thinking that if MCP is the preferred launch that it would be used first and if that didn't work, a CL could be tried yet the text suggests the opposite. 1 GbE notes that a single-mode fiber offset-launch mode-conditioning patchcord is required in order to meet the CPR requirement. I understand that the CPR requirement is built in to the OMA specification but I am wondering if the MCP is a requirement for meeting the standard?

I would also note that in 1GbE we used "CL" to mean "conditioned launch" (see 38.4.1) but now we seem to be using CL to mean "centered launch" which could cause some confusion.

Cheers,

Steve
