All,

The IEEE 802.3 400 Gb/s Ethernet Study Group will be meeting at the IEEE 802.3 January Interim Meeting, which will  be held the week of Jan 20  in Indian Wells, CA, USA.  The Study Group will be meeting Monday and Tuesday ( Jan 20 – 21) with a 6pm finish on Tuesday.

Registration and meeting details may be found at https://tools.sympose.com/event/indianwells_2014/.  You are strongly encouraged to make your reservations as soon as possible. Please note per the webpage –

Per the November Plenary, the adopted objectives of the Study Group may be found at http://www.ieee802.org/3/400GSG/project_docs/Objectives_13_1114.pdf.

As  As discussed at the end of the November meeting, with the adoption of these objectives,  it looks like our Study Group has defined our 400GbE project.  We must now focus our energy on completing our project documentation, i.e. PAR and CSD (which includes 5 Criteria).

Therefore, the agenda for the meeting will be the completion of project documentation for the 400GbE project.

Please note I recently forwarded a summary of presentations and how they address the BMP, Tech Feasibility, and Econ Feasibility criteria.  I noted in recent emails the need for various presentations.  You are encouraged to review these email at

·         Updated spreadsheet @ http://www.ieee802.org/3/400GSG/email/msg00142.html

·         Initial message - http://www.ieee802.org/3/400GSG/email/msg00141.html

Presentations addressing the topics in the noted areas in these emails, as well as the following areas, would be highly recommended:

·                       5 Criteria

o                                    Broad Market Potential

o                                     Economic Feasibility

o                                     Technical Feasibility

o                                     Distinct Identity

·                                                         Compatibility

Objectives for the Study Group

Note: presentations supporting a specific objective or proposed objective will be prioritized before presentations not supporting any objectives or proposed objectives.

As a reminder, working draft of PAR and SG adopted objectives may be found at

Draft PAR - http://www.ieee802.org/3/400GSG/project_docs/dambrosia_400_01a_0713.pdf

In light of our new objectives, we will need to review this PAR to see if it needs any modifications.

Anyone wishing to present, please provide the following information (per Procedure for Presenters web page:
