Re: [STDS-802-3-400G] FW: [802.3_50G] 50 Gb/s and NGOATH Ethernet Study Group Web pages have been upload

Chris,

I’m sure you meant to send this to the 50Gb/s and NGOATH Ethernet Study Group reflector instead of the 400GE reflector, so I’ll copy it over.

As you point it, it is great to see the interest and contributions.  As I pointed out in my ad hoc presentation this week, it will be a busy meeting and depending on what the SG wants to try and achieve during the week, we will have our work cut out for us.

I would remind you that we do not need to make any technical decisions within Study Group, but instead focus on selecting the objectives and then generating the supporting documentation (CSDs and PARs).

My plan is to again review the work flow options first thing in the meeting on Wednesday when we open.  At that time, I think it is appropriate to ask how to get more time to do work.  Unfortunately 802.3 was surprised by the announcement of the social as we’d been under the impression that there was no social.  We do have history of groups going into the evening if there is pressing work to complete and we have support from the participants.  Wednesday evening now has a scheduled social and the NG-ECDC ad hoc meetings.  Thursday evening has the 802.3 WG meeting.  We have limited options but we can have a discussion on Wednesday morning.  But hopefully not a long one as it will eat into our presentation time :)

Thanks...Mark

Dear 50 Gb/s and NGOATH Ethernet Study Group Participants,

I have reviewed the uploaded presentations for next week’s meeting, and I find them exceptionally substantive and rich in content. It is clear that a lot of work went into their preparation. Many of the presentations could easily fill a 1hr time slot for detailed explanation and extensive discussion. Unfortunately, with the limited meeting time available, the Chair has had to fit all the presentations into 20min slots Wednesday; 15min presentation time, 5min Q&A.

This means that speakers will be rushing through their material. This is a lost opportunity. The purpose of industry experts coming together is to study and discuss issues in depth, especially at such a critical juncture when we are making decisions that will determine technology directions.

I am wondering if SG Participants would consider meeting for two hours after the social on Wednesday, for example 8pm to 10pm, so that the Chair has typical 25min slots to work with. The difference between 20min and 15min presentation time is significant.

Thank you

Chris
