[STDS-802-3-400G] IEEE P802.3bs - Moving Forward

All,

Based on feedback I have received from some individuals, I am concerned that some have misunderstood the process going forward.

As noted during  the Task Force Comment Phase, in order for our Task Force to request to go to Working Group Ballot, the document must be complete with no open technical issues.  Furthermore, the draft must be available for preview 10 days prior to the WG Meeting where it is considered, i.e. the Monday before the Plenary Week.

We cannot request WG Ballot if the document is technically incomplete, which means no holes in the document (such as what the draft currently contains for TDP or Stressed Rx Test) or ANY TBD’s.

As I have noted, the schedule has been for the draft to be technically complete for 400GbE coming out of the May meeting, adopting all baselines for 200GbE out of the May meeting, and then a June meeting to focus on comments addressing the introduction of 200GbE into the draft and minor (non-significant) issues for 400GbE.  I have noted that the June meeting will be pending the status at the May meeting.  Meetings require a 30 day announcement, so a June 27 meeting would require announcement by May 27 at the latest.  I will confer with our Chief Editor, Pete Anslow, and our WG Chair, David Law, prior to making the decision to hold the June meeting.  If there are still major significant issues to resolve, I do not foresee holding a meeting in June.

So it is very important that we close all technical issues related to the 400GbE draft at this time in order to move the project to the next phase, i.e. Working Group Ballot.  And I do want to remind everyone that the entire draft will be re-opened to comment once WG Ballot is started.

Regards,

John D’Ambrosia

Chair, IEEE P802.3bs 400GbE Task Force
