[802.3_B10K] 50GbE 40km Objective 5C Ad hoc - Formation & Dec 14 Ad hoc Call

All,

At the November Plenary Study Group Meeting – the following straw poll was taken –

Straw Poll #4

  • I would support adopting the following objective
    • Provide physical layer specifications which support 50 Gb/s operation over at least 40 km of SMF
  • Results
    • Yes                  59
    • No                    0
    • Abstain             8

As noted during the Study Group meeting, it was anticipated that a motion to formally adopt the objective would likely pass, but given that the Study Group was anticipated to be reformed, a formal decision was held off.

David Lewis had submitted a presentation at this meeting, “50 GbE40 km Objective”  (http://www.ieee802.org/3/B10K/public/17_11/lewis_b10k_01_1117.pdf), which started looking at the 5C responses that would support the objective noted above.  Based on anticipation that the motion to formally adopt this objective would pass and David’s prior submission, I am appointing David to chair an ad hoc (50GbE 40km Objective 5C) to begin consideration of the 5C responses in support of this objective.

This email is to announce that there will be an ad hoc call on December 14 at 7am PT.  Formal details of the call will be forwarded shortly.

Regards,

John D’Ambrosia

Chair, IEEE 802.3 Beyond 10km Optical PHYs Study Group
