Minutes 2/20/15 recorded by Ron Tellas, Panduit

NGEABT Use Case Ad Hoc, 2/20/15

Reviewed of patent policy

Attendance:

Chris DiMinico, Dave Chalupsky, Clark Carty, Dave Jeskey, Dieter Schickentanz, George Zimmerman, German Feyh, Jacky Chang, Jerome-yu, Peter Jones, Bob Wagner, Ron Tellas, Stephen Sedio, Amrik Bains, Yong Kim, Masood Shariff

Contribution presented by Chris DiMinico.  No other contributions

Consideration of WAP cabling guidelines given in TIA/TSB 162-A.  TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)

George Zimmerman suggested that we also look at older versions of the 162 document to see how the lengths may have changed from 162 to 162A.

Clark Carty stated that the majority of installations below ceiling grid with POE power (slide 10 doesn’t show this).

Stephen Sedio asked if we can spread these cables out to improve performance. Chris suggested that in the past, a method is to not use adjacent ports in equipment deployment.  Ultimately up to end user.

How critical is the coupling in the first 10m of the cabling where bundling is most likely?  Chris commented that it is likely and that separation at the near end helps the equipment end.  Far end requires access to the cabling.

Guidelines on mitigation of bundling is offered in TIA/TSB-184.

Action items.  Review the contributions and think of other deployment considerations that all agree to review.  Then develop channel characteristics and use to solicit outside of IEEE to authenticate the use.

Question on how this work will allow mitigation of alien crosstalk.   Suggestion was to have the ad-hoc provide guidelines within given limits, which will probably focus on lengths of cabling within the topologies.

In Europe, there are different uses.  We need to verify that the topologies developed and suggested will work internationally.

Amrik Bains has data to present for next meeting.

Meeting on 3/6 is cancelled.  Next meeting is 2/27 at 11 EST.

Colleagues,

Use Case Ad Hoc contribution attached and February 6 meeting minutes below.

Regards,

Chris DiMinico

Minutes: Recording Secretary Bob Wagner, Panduit

· Reviewed Jan IEEE meeting and objectives agreed upon at that meeting

· Defined scope of this Use Case Ad Hoc

· DiMinico showed 10GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T channel and permanent link definitions which will be used as a baseline

· Gave overview of TSB-155 allowing 10GBASE-T over 37m of Cat6 cabling

· Bryan Moffit from Commscope gave a use case presentation on three typical applications: trading desk, data center row, and AP

· All agreed that most of the work in this group will be to create the typical cabling configurations and understand how the cable is bundled and what impulse noise/power sources are located near the cabling

· Peter Jones asked several end customers at the Milan Cisco Live to provide feedback on how they run their cabling and define the noise environments

o Amrik and Jackie Chan agreed to get similar feedback from their customers

Action Items:

· DiMinico show the TIA guidelines in the next Ad Hoc

· Work in tandem with German’s Impulse Noise AdHoc

· Solicit Survey information for most common use cases and deployment configurations

· Develop AP standard use cases as basis for defining what cabling will work in that environment

o Total length

o Bundling length

o Cable fill

o Effect on other cables running 1G in the same cable tray

Subject: [802.3_NGBASET] 802.3 NGEABT Impulse Noise and Use Case Analysis ad hoc Meeting Reminder. (was: Enterprise Noise Characterization)

Dear Colleagues,

I am excited to remind you that the first meeting of the 802.3 NGEABT Impulse Noise and Use Case Analysis  ad hoc is scheduled for Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 from 9:30AM to 11:00AM PST.

Please note the name change of the study group from “Enterprise Noise Characterization” to “Impulse Noise and Use Case Analysis”. I wanted the time slot opposite to Pete Cibula’s study group and sent out the invitation e-mail before the official meetings minutes from Atlanta were available using the name “Enterprise Noise Characterization”. The name is now changed back to the officially adopted name ” Impulse Noise and Use Case Analysis” for this study group.  Hopefully this will cause not too much confusion.

At this time, I have received no requests for presentation time nor any contributions to be shared with in the ad hoc.

If you are interested in presenting, please request a time slot and please forward your contributions to me (feyh@xxxxxxxxxxxx) and Dave Chalupsky ( david.chalupsky@xxxxxxxxx ) no later than 11:00PM Tuesday, January 27th 2015.

I’ll adjust the agenda as needed to accommodate your contribution.

This is a contribution driven process. Let’s establish a framework for contributions in this first meeting of the ad hoc.

Best regards,

German Feyh

802.3 NGEABT Impulse Noise and Use Case Analysis ad hoc Chair

Proposed agenda:
