[802.3_NGEPON] 10/08/15 NG-EPON Consensus building meeting notes

Colleagues,

It seems in my rush to escape the office and begin a tropical vacation, I was negligent with sending out meeting notes from our last consensus building meeting. Herewith please find the meeting notes from our meeting on 10/8/2015. Please accept my apologies for this oversight.

Of particular note, the deadline for submitting contributions for the upcoming November meeting is October 30!

Please let me know if I need to add to or revise the meeting notes below.

IEEE 802.3 NG-EPON Study Group Work Items and Socialization

·         Review of Guidelines for IEEE-SA meetings.

o    https://development.standards.ieee.org/myproject/Public/mytools/mob/preparslides.pdf

o    Has anyone not seen these Guidelines? Everyone has seen the guidelines

·         November meeting

o    Study Group meeting times (tentative but likely):

§  Tuesday, 11/10, 1 pm – 5:30 pm

§  Wednesday, 11/11, 9 am – 5:30 pm

§  Thursday, 11/12, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

·         CSD/PAR/Objectives timeline

·         Contribution deadline:

o    Contribution deadline: October 30, 2015 AOE

o    Send initial PDF and indicate amount of time desired to c.knittle@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

·         Finish scope discussion

o    Proposed scope change: The scope of this project is to amend IEEE Std 802.3 to add physical layer specifications and management parameters for symmetric and/or asymmetric operation at 25 Gb/s, 50 Gb/s, and 100 Gb/s MAC data rates on point-to-multipoint passive optical networks.

·         Comments on Objectives:

o    Do we need to add 50 Gb/s to the objectives? For example;

§  Provide specifications for physical layers operating over a single SMF strand and supporting symmetric and/or asymmetric MAC data rates of:

·         25 Gb/s in downstream and less than or equal to 25 Gb/s in upstream

·         50 Gb/s in downstream and less than or equal to 50 Gb/s in upstream

·         100 Gb/s in downstream and less than or equal to100 Gb/s in upstream. This physical layer specification shall accommodate flexible configuration to support operation at reduced MAC data rates.

§  The above changes were the consensus of the meeting participants.

·         Initial plan for contributions (tentative)

o    Channel bonding

o    New material on 25 Gb/s serial

o    Updated contribution on layers

·         Open floor

o    Would be great to have an overview of NG-PON2 scheduling, and thoughts on potential flexible scheduling
