Dear Colleagues,

IEEE 802.3 will meet Monday 15th July through Thursday 18th July 2019 in Vienna, Austria. The IEEE 802.3 meetings are scheduled to occur in the Internationales Amtssitz und Konferenzzentrum Wien (IAKW), Vienna, Austria. As always, the IEEE 802 LMSC session announcement, registration and current hotel information can be found through the 'Next IEEE 802.3 meeting notice' link on our home web page <www.ieee802.org/3>. To receive email updates and reminders for the plenary sessions, subscribe to the stds-802-ALL reflector <https://listserv.ieee.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=stds-802-ALL&A=1>.

The IEEE 802.3 Working Group (WG) opening plenary meeting will begin at 10:00 on Monday 15th July, and the IEEE 802.3 WG closing plenary meeting will begin at 13:00 on Thursday 18th July. Task Force (TF), Study Group (SG), standing committee and any appropriate ad hoc meetings will be scheduled between the opening and closing IEEE 802.3 meetings as illustrated in our typical schedule also found on our web site <http://www.ieee802.org/3/plenary.html>. The draft agenda, as well as liaison letters received so far, are available in the minutes area <http://www.ieee802.org/3/minutes/jul19/index.html> and will be updated as required prior to the meeting. The agenda will be approved at the meeting.

We will gather two records of attendance, the attendance tracking tool and attendance books in each meeting. The attendance tool will be the only official record of attendance for building and maintaining WG membership. The meeting attendance books will be used to record the attendance in the minutes for each meeting and it is important that you review these minutes to make sure your attendance is recorded correctly as this will be the backup should there be an issue with the attendance tool.

Attendance credit toward membership requires attendance at three of the four days of the IEEE 802.3 session, independent of how long a particular subgroup might be meeting. The attendance tracking tool will only allow sign in on Monday at the opening IEEE 802.3 plenary and on Thursday at the closing IEEE 802.3 plenary meeting (not during the Monday afternoon or Thursday morning meetings). A number of WG decisions are expected during the IEEE 802.3 meetings (most on Thursday during the closing meeting). Depending on the amount of discussion, the Thursday closing meeting may run beyond our target 18h00 ending time, so please plan your travel accordingly. Additional subgroup information follows.

The Task Force will be considering new maintenance requests, reviewing the status of outstanding maintenance requests. The Task Force will also be progressing the approval of the IEEE P802.3cv Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Maintenance #15: Power over Ethernet PAR. The draft PAR is pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at this meeting prior to seeking approval of the PAR by the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive committee. Automotive optical Multi-Gig call for interest

The following request for agenda time for an Automotive optical Multi-Gig call for interest has been received from Carlos Pardo.

Ethernet is becoming the main in-vehicle communication technology of the automotive industry. Several PHYs have been standardized in IEEE 802.3 to support this automotive market. The first generation Ethernet automotive optical PHY is being designed in by several car manufacturers. To complement this current 1 Gb/s PHY and proposed multi-gig Ethernet copper PHY solutions, a higher data rate optical solution is also required by the automotive industry.

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary on the morning of Monday 15th July. A call for interest consensus building meeting has been scheduled to occur from 18:30 to 19:30 on the evening of Tuesday 16th July. The vote to determine if a Study Group will be formed will take place at the IEEE 802.3 Closing Plenary on the afternoon of Thursday 18th July.

Applications in which Precision Time Protocol (PTP) (e.g., IEEE Std 1588 or IEEE Std 802.1AS) is carried over Ethernet interfaces have become increasingly important. A growing number of applications benefit from being able to communicate frequency and time synchronization information over Ethernet. Emerging important potential Ethernet applications such as 5G mobile radio access networks require increased PTP accuracy. Unfortunately, the increased complexity of several recent IEEE Std 802.3 PHYs have inadvertently introduced limitations or degradations of the potential PTP accuracy. In some cases, the decreased PTP accuracy is related to a discrepancy between IEEE Std 802.3 and IEEE Std 802.1AS/1588 reference points. Addressing these issues will increase the scope of applications in which Ethernet can be deployed. This Call for Interest is to assess the support for the formation of a Study Group to explore the potential markets requirements and feasibility of amending the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard to support high accuracy frequency and time synchronization.

10 Mb/s Single Pair Ethernet Multidrop Enhancements call for interest

Ethernet is becoming the networking technology of choice in the OT environment, e.g. Building and Industrial Automation. The emergence of 10Mb/s Single Pair Ethernet creates significant opportunities to migrate these environments from fieldbus technologies to Ethernet.  Enhancing multidrop support expands the addressable market for this technology. Enhancements such as longer mixing segments, increased node counts and support of power over the mixing segment have been requested from the industry. With the progress of IEEE P802.3cg towards ratification, this is the time to start this effort.

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary on the morning of Monday 15th July. A call for interest consensus building meeting has been scheduled to occur from 20:30 to 21:30 on the evening of Tuesday 16th July. The vote to determine if a Study Group will be formed will take place at the IEEE 802.3 Closing Plenary on the afternoon of Thursday 18th July.
