Dear IEEE P802.3ca Task Force Participants,

I would like to correct an item in the email below. I provided Curtis with the incorrect date for the formation of the Working Group ballot group for this project. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Thursday 23rd May 2019 as correctly stated in the ballot notice below. My apologies for any confusion.

As stated in the announcement below, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Monday 30th September 2019. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot on the Amendment IEEE P802.3ca 25 Gb/s and 50 Gb/s Ethernet Passive Optical Networks. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html#DOT3 >. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you are using the most up to date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Thursday 23rd May 2019.

Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.

BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3ca/D2.1 and IEEE P802.3ca/D2.2 and the unsatisfied negative comments.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/18/ec-18-0247-00-ACSD-p802-3ca.pdf >. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 25 Gb/s and 50 Gb/s Passive Optical Networks

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
The scope of this project is to amend IEEE Std 802.3 to add physical layer specifications and management parameters for point-to-multipoint passive optical networks supporting MAC data rates of 25 Gb/s or 50 Gb/s in the downstream direction and 10 Gb/s, 25 Gb/s, or 50 Gb/s in the upstream direction, with distance and split ratios consistent with those defined in IEEE Std 802.3. It also extends the operation of Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON) protocols, such as MultiPoint Control Protocol (MPCP) and Operation Administration and Management (OAM).

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
The project is applicable to business and residential access environments. The project is needed to enable access network operators to provide advanced bandwidth-intensive services while reducing footprint of network equipment, simplifying service upgrades, reducing network upgrade cost, and reducing fiber deployment costs.
