Re: [802.3_10SPE] Update on 802.3cg action regarding Don Pannell's proposal

All -
While there has been much discussion on the merits and challenges and market application regarding Don Pannell's proposal, I wanted to update you, informally, on the action in 802.3cg today on comment 573, from Claude Gauthier regarding making changes to 802.3cg including a new service interface for a priority client.
802.3cg rejected the comment, but chartered an ad hoc, specifically to investigate and propose a recommended solution within the project scope of IEEE P802.3cg to implement the functionality desired in comment 573 on 802.3cg d2p0 (e.g., at least not requiring a new service interface). The ad hoc will be announced to the 802.3 Working Group community. The ad hoc shall report its progress to the Task Force, and the Task Force shall report this to the 802.3 Working Group at the November plenary.

Please note this will not be the regular 802.3cg ad hoc, but a special one chartered for this topic, to be chaired by Mr. James Withey of Fluke. The first meeting of the ad hoc is expected around the beginning of October. Please watch the 10SPE reflector for an announcement.

For those interested, I have included the full text of the comment resolution including the straw poll below as recorded in the database:

REJECT.

No consensus for change.
Comment fails to provide sufficient remedy.

Additionally, the chair charters an ad hoc specifically to investigate and propose a recommended solution within the project scope of IEEE P802.3cg to implement the functionality desired in comment 573 on 802.3cg d2p0 (e.g., at least not requiring a new service interface). The ad hoc will be announced to the 802.3 Working Group community. The ad hoc shall report its progress to the Task Force, and the Task Force shall report this to the 802.3 Working Group at the November plenary.

To reject the comment and charter the ad hoc as above:
