Re: [802.3_DWDM] IEEE P802.3ct Clause 30 Modifications Ad hoc

All,

On yesterday’s joint IEEE P802.3ct / .3cw interim TF Call, Tom Issenhuth gave a verbal update on the status of the Clause 30 Modifications ad hoc.

Tom noted the main areas that  needed to be addressed:

  • Modification of existing RS-FEC registers
  • New SC-FEC registers
  • Local layers are only reporting the local FEC across the AUI / internal device.  Does it need to be exposed to network management?  Which segment is reported?

Based on their discussions, the scope of the ad hoc has been further refined to the following –

  1. Update the behaviors of the PHY Error Monitor package for 100GBASE-ZR PHY.
  2. Update the behaviors of the Forward Error Correction package for 100GBASE-ZR PHY.
  3. Decide if an additional 100GBASE-ZR PHY package should be added for RS-FEC to Inverse RS-FEC.

Subject: IEEE P802.3ct Clause 30 Modifications Ad hoc

All,

As discussed at this week’s joint Task Force Electronic Plenary Teleconference, I am chartering the “Clause 30 Modifications” Ad hoc.  It’s charter is to address what information needs to be accessible to a network manager and develop required modifications to clause 30.  Tom Issenhuth will chair the ad hoc.

I am copying the Dialog Reflector on this email in order to identify individuals with expertise in Clause 30 to assist the Ad hoc with its task.  Any individuals with such expertise are requested to either contact Tom or myself.

Regards,
