RE: [EFM] Moving forward on extended temperature range optics

I agree with your line of reasoning about establishing feasibility of the
various optical PHY over industrial temps.  I am not convinced we can meet
the reach, rate, wavelength plan, power budget, and reasonable reliability
all over extended temperature range.  However, I do think we have the
technical expertise at the meetings to address the issue! 

I suggest the group could extend your questions about relative cost to
include all optics PHYs in scope at EFM over extended temperature.  I am
particularly interested in knowing if operation of P2P at 100 Mbps is going
to be lower cost increase compared to Gigabit P2P and Gigabit P2MP over
industrial temperature. In other words, does higher linerate and distance
make extended temperature harder?  That information is likely to drive what
system to focus on for outside the house mounted systems for FTTH.  

Personally, I would suggest we study all relevant parameters like reach,
lower speed, wavelength range, launch level, receive level in the standard
in order to meet  industrial temp range with economic feasibility for FTTH. 
Can new technologies in optical devices help us here and are we allowing
them in the current standard?
