[802.3_DIALOG] Call for interest - 4-pair Power over Ethernet

To: IEEE 802.3 Voters, Observers and Liaisons

Dear Colleagues,

The following request for agenda time for a call for interest has been received from Koussalya Balasubramanian. It will be discussed at the IEEE 802 LMSC March 2013 Plenary meeting in Orlando, FL, USA. If you have any questions please get in touch with either Koussalya Balasubramanian <kobalasu@xxxxxxxxx> or myself directly.

----

Power over Ethernet (PoE) has become the preferred method to power networked devices, such as IP phones and access points. It has also enabled many new types of network devices. PoE systems will benefit from a 4-pair solution in multiple ways, for instance, better energy efficiency than 2-pair PoE system and the ability to provide greater than 25.5 Watts of power to systems. This call for interest is to request the formation of a "4-pair Power over Ethernet" study group to start this effort.

----

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary on the afternoon of Monday 18th March. A call for interest consensus building meeting will be scheduled to occur during the week. The vote to determine if a Study Group will be formed will take place at the IEEE 802.3 Closing Plenary on the afternoon of Thursday 21st March.

David Law, Chair, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group
