Re: [802.3_DIALOG] Call for interest - Next Generation Enterprise Access BASE-T PHY

Thank you David,

Dear Colleagues,

The requested CFI announcement is now posted in 802.3 page.
http://www.ieee802.org/3/cfi/request_1114_1.html

I am announcing the intent to hold at least two webex calls to help socialize this call for interest, one for next week (Tuesday morning PT/USA) and one the week of Oct 26th (TBD date, one week prior to the plenary week).

If you are interested in participating, please contact me (please 'reply', do not reply-all).

Please note that Peter Jones (reachable via peterjones at cisco com) has been actively helping to drive this CFI content and effort. Please feel free to reach out to him on this topic.

best regards,

Subject: [802.3_DIALOG] Call for interest - Next Generation Enterprise Access BASE-T PHY

Dear Colleagues,

The following request for agenda time for a call for interest has been received from Yong Kim. It will be discussed at the IEEE 802 LMSC November 2014 Plenary meeting in San Antonio, TX, USA. If you have any questions please get in touch with either Yong Kim <ybkim@xxxxxxxxxxxx> or myself directly.

----

This is a call for interest to initiate a Study Group to explore the need for one or more new Ethernet speed(s) between 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s over balanced twisted pair cabling. We believe there is a market need, driven by IEEE Std 802.11ac wireless access points, to support higher than 1 Gb/s Ethernet rates at a 100m reach using the installed base of Cat5e (or better) structured cabling. Higher performance end devices like desktop and laptop PCs, as well as other enterprise applications for Ethernet, will also benefit from the new data rates provided by this work.

----

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary on the afternoon of Monday 3rd November. A call for interest consensus building meeting has been scheduled to occur from 18:00 to 19:30 on the evening of Tuesday 4th November. The vote to determine if a Study Group will be formed will take place at the IEEE 802.3 Closing Plenary on the afternoon of Thursday 6th November.
