DESCRIPTION:Colleagues\,\n\nThe Multi-Gig Automotive Ethernet PHY Study Gro
up will hold its first ad hoc call next week. Our study group email reflec
tor has been requested from the IEEE. Once it's up and running we'll send
subscription info to the DIALOG and ECDC reflectors. We'd like to get ever
yone onto the reflector as soon as possible. \n\nI have asked George Zimme
rman to lead the ad hoc calls\, and he has kindly accepted. Here's what we
'll be trying to do on the first call:\n\nOur initial ad hoc call will foc
us on orienting our work as an ad hoc of a Study Group\, including what we
need to do\, what we don’t need to do\, and possible timeframes. You w
ill see that we would like to be off to a fast start\, as the schedules of
meetings require us to. \n \nI realize this is short notice\, but below a
re some things it would be great to see presentations on:\n- I ex
pect we will have a presentation from Natalie Wienckowski\, based on the r
esults of a survey of needs and capabilities that she has conducted. \n-
If you expect to bring forward a presentation for meeting one of t
he CSDs (technical or economic feasibility?) in January\, or before\, it w
ould be nice to have at least a short presentation summarizing what you mi
ght consider technically feasible.\n- To help us move forward thi
nking about possible objectives\, and if you have thoughts on how that mig
ht be written as a possible objective\, a presentation along those lines w
ould be good too. \n- Presentations on both PHYs and media types
would be useful.\n- Presentations on use cases for multi-gig aut
omotive PHYs would be useful to help us scope the work.\n\nIn general\, do
n’t worry about a deep-dives for the 23rd\, but if you can give people a
preview of your thoughts\, you may also get a preview of the important qu
estions that you want to answer in a full presentation at the next ad hoc
or at the January interim\, as well as uncover possible collaborators.\n\n
