David
Do you think you should be saying anything about the NEA ICAID being up for
review at this meeting?

Subject: [802.3_DIALOG] November 2018 plenary meeting announcement

Dear Colleagues,

IEEE 802.3 will meet Monday 12th November through Thursday 15th November
2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The IEEE 802.3 meetings are scheduled to occur in
the Marriott Marquis Queen's Park, Bangkok, Thailand. As always, the IEEE
802 LMSC session announcement, registration and current hotel information
can be found through the 'Next IEEE 802.3 meeting notice' link on our home
web page <www.ieee802.org/3>. To receive email updates and reminders for the
plenary sessions, subscribe to the stds-802-ALL reflector
<https://listserv.ieee.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=stds-802-ALL&A=1>.

The IEEE 802.3 Working Group (WG) opening plenary meeting will begin at
10:00 on Monday 12th November, and the IEEE 802.3 WG closing plenary meeting
will begin at 13:00 on Thursday 15th November. Task Force (TF), Study Group
(SG), standing committee and any appropriate ad hoc meetings will be
scheduled between the opening and closing IEEE 802.3 meetings as illustrated
in our typical schedule also found on our web site
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/plenary.html>. The draft agenda, as well as
liaison letters received so far, are available in the minutes area
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/minutes/nov18/index.html> and will be updated as
required prior to the meeting. The agenda will be approved at the meeting.

We will gather two records of attendance, the attendance tracking tool and
attendance books in each meeting. The attendance tool will be the only
official record of attendance for building and maintaining WG membership.
The meeting attendance books will be used to record the attendance in the
minutes for each meeting, and it is important that you review these minutes
to make sure your attendance is recorded correctly as this will be the
backup should there be an issue with the attendance tool.

Attendance credit toward membership requires attendance at three of the four
days of the IEEE 802.3 session, independent of how long a particular
subgroup might be meeting. The attendance tracking tool will only allow sign
in on Monday at the opening IEEE 802.3 plenary and on Thursday at the
closing IEEE 802.3 plenary meeting (not during the Monday afternoon or
Thursday morning meetings). A number of WG decisions are expected during the
IEEE 802.3 meetings (most on Thursday during the closing meeting). Depending
on the amount of discussion, the Thursday closing meeting may run beyond our
target 18h00 ending time, so please plan your travel accordingly. Additional
subgroup information follows.

I look forward to seeing you in Bangkok, Thailand.

100 Gb/s Lambda call for interest
-----------------------------------

CFI page: <http://www.ieee802.org/3/cfi/request_1118_1.html>

The following request for agenda time for a 100 Gb/s Lambda call for
interest has been received from Mark Nowell.

----

Ethernet has a successful track record of reusing and leveraging technology
in order to enable new cost-optimized solutions for broad market adoption.
Recently, both the IEEE 802.3bs and IEEE 802.3cd Ethernet projects defined
optical interfaces based on 100 Gb/s PAM4 per lane optics for 500m reaches
on single-mode fiber. This technology enables a lower component count
implementation that can lead towards a lower cost solution.

The successful industry adoption of 100 GbE is resulting in higher volumes
and continuing cost pressures on optical interfaces and the hyper-scale data
centers, being aggressive adopters of cost-effective solutions, are looking
to enable the next generation of lower cost solutions for 400 Gb/s Ethernet
interfaces.

At this time, no IEEE 802.3 Ethernet specifications exist for greater than
500m reaches on single-mode fiber using this advanced technology. This Call
For Interest is a request for the formation of a Study Group to explore the
potential market requirements and feasibility of extending 100 Gb/s PAM4 per
lane optical technology to longer 100 Gb/s and 400 Gb/s Ethernet reaches.

----

The call for interest will take place during the IEEE 802.3 Opening Plenary
on the morning of Monday 12th November. A call for interest consensus
building meeting has been scheduled to occur from 18:30 to 19:30 on the
evening of Tuesday 13th November. The vote to determine if a Study Group
will be formed will take place at the IEEE 802.3 Closing Plenary on the
afternoon of Thursday 15th November.

Project Authorization Requests (PARs)
=====================================

The following are the PARs from other Working Groups for consideration at
the plenary. Comments are due by 18:30 on Tuesday so if there is any
interest in reviewing an Ad Hoc will have to be chartered to generate and
submit the comments. Participants are invited to discuss any concerns about
the below PARs on the IEEE 802.3 Dialog reflector prior to the plenary
meeting.

IEEE 802.3 Rules
================

At the July 2018 plenary we discussed three proposed revisions to the IEEE
802.3 operating rules. It is expected that a vote will occur at the IEEE
802.3 closing plenary to decide if the change should be accepted, rejected
or sent out for a Working Group ballot. The first (1-07/18) proposed
revision relates to defining the role of Task Force Vice-Chair
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/rules/updates/prop_change_1_0718.pdf>, the second
(2-07/18) relates to removing a redundant item from Compatibility criterion
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/rules/updates/prop_change_2_0718.pdf>, the third
(3-07/18) relates to TF/SG meetings during WG interim meeting series
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/rules/updates/prop_change_3_0718.pdf>.

At present, there are no new proposed rules changes.
