Email bounced from the EPOC reflector, trying again.

Duane,

No more hidden rows (I hope)?

Attached is a revised spreadsheet with new comments on hidden parameters added, again, in Red.

Note: There are a huge number of redundant and overlapping parameters in the consider list.   I added some new parameters into the proposed Channel Parameter tab based on the parameters in the ‘Consider’ tab that I believed to be missing from the CPL.

I believe that this new Channel Parameter List, now covers 90% or more of all of the parameters in the ‘Consider’ tab in one way or another.  For example CNR can be converted into SNR and CSO and CTB can be represented by a degradation in the overall SNR or the per sub-carrier SNR. Chroma-Luma Delay can be represented by Group Delay and so on.

The large number of parameters in the Consider tab simply reflects the large number of documents over history representing the cable plant characteristics but tailored to a specific modulation technology.  Most or all of the analog impairments can be re-defined in the form of digital impairments.

We should strive to keep the channel parameter list to a “minimum but sufficient” set to fully describe the channel but not add redundant or overlapping parameters.

Regards,

Hal

All,

Just as a reminder I’m looking for feedback on the parameter list and especially what to include and exclude from the “Consider” tab. I’ve attached the param list from 11/01. Note that the “Consider” tab on the last version sent out had some rows hidden (5-80).

Best Regards,

Duane

Please find attached an agenda for today’s call. I would like to begin closing in on the parameter list (also attached in excel form) today and next week so we have something to start with in San Antonio.

Duane
