UPDATE: TRAX, referenced below, is undergoing construction affecting the Courthouse stop. Construction plan information is here.
TRAX, Salt Lake’s light rail system, connects the airport to downtown. The fare is $2.50. Board the train at the south end of Terminal 1 and ride to the Courthouse stop, about 1-1/2 blocks east of the Sheraton. The 35-minute trip passes by myriad shopping and dining areas en route, so it is a good way to get your bearings in the city. Trains depart every 15-20 minutes. Click for more information.
During the week take advantage of the TRAX free fare zone to reach selected downtown destinations that are just beyond comfortable walking distance from the hotel via the light rail line.
About Salt Lake City
Built on a grid plan, Salt Lake City is easy to navigate. Most streets are named for their proximity to South Temple (east/west street) and Main Street (north/south) which intersect at the southern edge of Temple Square. The Sheraton at "150 West 500 South" is on the east/west street "500 South" which is 5 blocks south of South Temple. The 150 West address indicates that it is 1-1/2 blocks west of Main Street.
You'll find dozens of restaurants and pubs in the downtown areas spanning 300 West to 200 East and 500 South to South Temple. Additional restaurants and shops are located in The Gateway, from 400-500 West and 100 South to South Temple; access The Gateway via TRAX.

Anyone with a car in Salt Lake City should be aware of Utah's new state law establishing 0.05% blood alcohol as the threshold for drunk driving; this contrasts to 0.08% in all other US states.
