[802SEC] NIST Time and Frequency Division

Forwarded for your information if any of your projects involve time and
space locations. I suggest, since Roger Marks is from NIST/Boulder, that
Roger collect any 802 inputs.

The Joint Program Office that runs GPS is developing the next generation,
GPSIII, that will be for the next 20-30 years. It is important that the
telecom industry let them know their needs, requirements, and wishes.

There are two windows for input into GPSIII. One of them is NOW, i.e. by
mid-May for Lockheed-Martin and Boeing. These are the contractors who are
independently participating in the System Architecture Requirements and
Development (SARD) process. The SARD contracts were let last November,
giving the winners one year to design a potential GPSIII for the next 20-30
years. They are looking for input to their process.

A separate forum for requirements input is through the GPS Interagency Forum
for Operational Requirements (IFOR). This is a longer-term process.

If you have ideas of what time and frequency signals might be useful to
telecom over the next 20-30 years, please contact Marc Weiss as below.
While we will need docmentation eventually, at this time it will be helpful
to brainstorm potential uses of high-accuracy global time and frequency
signals.
