RE: [802SEC] BALLOT RESULTS +++ SEC EMAIL BALLOT +++ Get IEEE 802(tm) program recommendation

Paul,

Not to be a nit picker but, your tally of the vote does not square up. In
the section by the list you show "DIS" next to 8 names, but show a total of
7. You also show "APP" next to only one name, but show a total of 2.
Finally, you show "ABS" next to no names, but show a total of 1. Can you
straighten these out? The summary line seems to be correct.

program recommendation

Dear SEC,

The tally on the below SEC Email ballot is as follows:

01 Geoff Thompson APP
02 Buzz Rigsbee DIS
03 Bob O'Hara DIS
04 Bill Quackenbush DNV
05 Tony Jeffree DIS
06 Bob Grow DIS
07 Stuart Kerry DIS
08 Bob Heile DIS
09 Roger Marks DIS
10 Mike Takefman DNV
11 Carl Stevenson	DIS
            total:-7- -2- -2- -1-

6 APPROVES required to PASS. Ballot FAILS (1APP, 8DIS, 2DNV, 0ABS)

Since this ballot failed, the SEC doesn't have consensus on a specific
recommendation to make to the BoG. From the comments that were made, I feel
the sense of the SEC is to keep the program unchanged in order to collect
more data. Based on the discussions I have had with Jerry Walker, Geoff
Thompson and Howard Frazier, and the results of this ballot, the best course
of action may be to postpone any program changes until July when the SEC has
a chance to meet with the BoG in person. This leaves open the question of
what to do with the $75 per person fee collected at the March plenary
session.

Finally, Jerry Walker is planning to propose a recommendation to the SEC by
the end of the week base on these results, the discussions we have had and
his discussions with the BoG.

Regards,

recommendation

Dear SEC,

This is an SEC email ballot on a recommendation to be made by the IEEE 802
SEC to the IEEE-SA regarding the Get IEEE 802(tm) program as moved by Geoff
Thompson, seconded by Bill Quackenbush.

The email ballot opens on Friday April 26 9AM EDT and closes Friday May 3rd
5PM EDT.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a result of the extensive discussions between representatives of the SEC
(Nikolich, Thompson, Frazier) and IEEE-SA staff (mostly Jerry Walker) and
with some participation by Jim Carlo (who is on the BoG) I propose the
following motion:

802 SEC Motion
Moved by: Geoff Thompson, 1st Vice Chair
Second by: Bill Quackenbush

That the following choice be offered to the IEEE-SA regarding the "Get IEEE
802 (tm)" program:

1) Extend the program as per the original agreement until the next annual
review date (May 15, 2003). The following adjustment to the original terms
would not negate this choice: Change of the new standard hold-back period
from 6 months to 12 months.

802 approves continuation of ongoing support for the program on a year by
calendar year basis at the original rate of $75 per person per 802
registration.

2) Terminate the program as of the annual review date (May 15, 2002). 802
would cease payment of support funds.
