REGS/ FW: Possible challenge to FCC 5 GHz rules
I am forwarding this message for your information.
I was also on a conference call today in which an
NTIA representative confirmed the fact that NTIA
is likely to petition the FCC to reopen the U-NII
rules (they have not done so yet, but it appears
likely that they will do so in the near future.)

> Just learned that at the IRAC meeting the USG (NTIA, DoD,
> and NASA) has circulated a position paper that was approved
> to go forward requesting NTIA to repetition the FCCon the
> 5 GHz band rules.
> This will include all three current U-NII bands as well as
> the WECA band proposal.
> This petition will address the concern that the USG believes
> that these systems will interfere with [their] system.
> Among the proposals will be possibly to limit power in the
> 5250-5350 MHz band to 200mW EIRP indoor use only
> Also DFS and TPC and other techniques will be mandatory.
> We will watch this matter closely and respond as needed.
