Folks,

 

I started writing the next P&P change, which is ‘WG Membership and Meetings’.  I find that it overlaps the current P&P change on ‘EC Membership and Meetings’.  The text of concern is as follows:

 

EC membership, including all rights and responsibilities thereof, is acquired by Working Group/Technical Advisory Group Chairs upon appointment to the position of Chair of a Working Group/Technical Advisory Group and confirmation by the members of the Working Group/Technical Advisory Group; and for all other Executive Committee members when confirmed by the Executive Committee. 

 

My view is this is specifically for the case of a new WG/TAG or where a chair steps down or is incapacitated forcing the appointment of a new chair.  I would like to change the text to read as follows (to account for the possibility of an Elected WG/TAG chair):

 

 

EC membership, including all rights and responsibilities thereof, is acquired by Working Group/Technical Advisory Group Chairs upon appointment to the position of Chair of a Working Group/Technical Advisory Group and confirmation by the members of the Working Group/Technical Advisory Group; and for an elected chair of a Working Group/Technical Advisory Group and all other Executive Committee members when confirmed by the Executive Committee.

Folks,

We took a straw poll on this ballot today.  The initial straw poll had the following results:

For             1

Against         9

Abstain         3

Did Not Vote    2

Further probing revealed that if the text on Member Emeritus and Telecons were broken out separately, 13 voters would support the change.  Accordingly, attached please find the last version of text for this revision parsed into 3 different files (Word and PDF):

        Member Emeritus

        Telecons

        All Else

I intend to bring each set of text for an approval vote at the EC Friday.  If you have any question or comments, please let me know.
