Re: [802SEC] IETF/IEEE 802 relationship document

On 1.7 Ethertype allocation, the Ethertype space is extremely limited so we have to allocate them carefully. For related uses, we would prefer that people request a single Ethertype and then use additional fields to serve as sub-protocol identifiers rather than applying for multiple Ethertypes. See:
http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/ethertype/type-tut.html
the Ethertype tutorial for more information.

Some information on that should be added to 1.7.

Pat

Tony,

Looks mostly good. A few minor comments:

1. Correct length of time in the first sentence of 1.1 to indicate 6
months instead of 12 months.
2. At the end of 1.6, expand upon the last sentence to provide details
on how and when an IETF participant can vote on 802 ballots.
3. I didn't check that references in the text were reflected in 4, but I
couldn't help noticing [IEEE-802.5] and [VLAN] in 4, neither of which is
mentioned in the text.

Subject: [802SEC] IETF/IEEE 802 relationship document

Colleauges -

As part of our ongoing activities aimed at coordinating work between 802
and the IETF, Bernard Aboba has been collating/updating a document that
describes/summarizes the relationship between our organizations, with
input from various of the people on both sides of the collaborative
relationship.
The current draft is here:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-iab-ieee-802-rel-01.txt

I would appreciate it if you would review and comment on this document.
The outcome Bernard is looking for is that we reach a position where the
IEEE
802 Excomm agrees that statements
relating to IEEE 802 procedures are accurate, and agrees with the
processes and procedures that are suggested are appropriate going
forward.

Regards,
Tony
