Re: [802SEC] WG and TAG opening plenary meeting presentations

I doubt that this adds enough question time to be truly useful and it takes away from other meeting time. If people want interactive time with the Exec Committee, then I suggest we set up a tutorial slot for it or set up a pre-social panel on Wednesday. We have a cancelled tutorial this week. However, the panel discussion I set up last meeting got almost no participation so I've got doubts that this is what the majority or even a significant minority of our members want.

On moving the Exec to Sunday evening, we already lost some openness when we moved the closing Exec to Friday afternoon. I do not think it would be good to make the opening plenary less accessible. When we have set rules meetings on Sunday night, attendance hasn't been great so even our Exec isn't keen on coming in that early.

In many locales, a Sunday evening meeting would require me to start travel very early on Sunday or on Saturday. The Friday closing plenary usually requires me to return home on Saturday. If we move the plenary, I would do this but I doubt that many 802 members who aren't EC voters will be willing or able to allocate that half or all of two weekends so they can observe the plenaries.

Regards,
Pat

Paul,

If I were voting on extending the 802 Opening Plenary, I would vote No.

For me, the time between the 802 Opening Plenary and the WG Opening
Plenary is extremely hectic.

Long ago, when the Working Groups made their schedules, they were
assuming the conventional Opening Plenary slot. I think it's awfully
late to make this change now.

My own WG has a relatively easy schedule this time, so we could
afford to adjust our 1 pm start. But I'm would assume that other WGs
have less flexibility.
