Title: Recommended Practice for mesh topology capability in Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Scope: The scope is to provide a recommended practice to provide the architectural framework enabling WPAN devices to promote interoperable, stable, and scaleable wireless mesh topologies and, if needed, to provide the amendment text to the current WPAN
standards that is required to implement this recommended practice.
Purpose: This project facilitates wireless mesh topologies optimized for IEEE 802.15 WPANs. Mesh Topologies provide: -Extension of network coverage without increasing the transmit power or the receiver sensitivity -Enhanced reliability via route
redundancy -Easier network configuration -Better device battery life
Do the title, scope and purpose match that of the current draft? Yes
Why is an extension required? Work is in final stages of Working Group letter ballot. It has passed with a substantial margin and been recirculated once. Sponsor Ballot may begin as soon as Sept 2008 but may not begin until November 2008 depending on number of additional recirculations needed for unsatisfied NO's. Project completion and submission to RevCom is expected in
March 2009.
