[802SEC] Fw: IEEE representative related to unlicensed wireless (IEEE 802.x)

Dear EC

I think the below is fairly self explanatory. I have also attached a slide deck from a recent webinar explaining the process. Let me know if any of you have interest in contributing to this.

Regards

Bob

Hi Frances,

Matt Ceglia forwarded your email to me.

I suggest that you contact the following chairs in the IEEE 802 Committee:

Paul Nikolich is chair of IEEE 802, IEEE LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC). He can be reached at p.nikolich@ieee.org.

Bob Heile is chair of IEEE 802.15, Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN). He is also chair of the ZigBee Alliance. Bob's email is bheile@ieee.org. Bob is also co-chair of the IEEE P2030 Task Force on Communications Technology. He attended the NIST Workshop in May.

The IEEE 802 committee is meeting this week in San Francisco. I am taking the liberty of copying both Paul and Bob on this email, so that they are aware of your contact at the earliest opportunity.

Please let me know if you have further questions or need additional information

Regards,
Sue

Subject: IEEE representative related to unlicensed wireless (IEEE 802.x)

Jodi, Matt - or someone else in the IEEE -

NIST has a Priority Action Plan related to unlicensed wireless for the Smart Grid: "Guidelines for wireless communications for the smart grid, (see 6.1.5 Communications Interference in Unlicensed Radio Spectrums)". We are going to be working with the ZigBee, possibly the FCC, and ISA (SP100) to address the use of wireless in the Smart Grid, and would like to have someone from IEEE 802.x group who would interested in working to help develop these guidelines. Do you know of such a person, or who might you suggest that I ask?

We would have some email/teleconferences before the NIST August 3-4 workshop, and then have a breakout meeting during the workshop. What happens next will be discussed at that workshop.

Frances
