Re: [802SEC] +++ 10-day EC Email Ballot +++ Additional Funding for 30th Anniversary

Hi Pat, We have upgraded to a much better quality shirt (i.e. a 7-ounce
fabric instead of the 4.8 we had in Atlanta, 80% Pima Cotton/20% Poly blend
(best for overall appearance and wear), in a Royal Blue Pique' Knit
Polo/Golf Shirt with the left pocket and the full embroidered Logo and dates
in white. I have a sample of the final design and it is easily the
equivalent of a $75-90 golf shirt by Cutter & Buck. We have the size
distribution to cover the full population of attendees. These shirts will
be worn by folks for years to come and you can trust me on that. I know I
will wear mine and I'll bet you'll like yours too. They are an excellent
value. :-)

Thanx, Buzz

Disapprove

I'm not opposed to spending some money on the 30th anniversary celebration,
but I feel that our earlier feedback isn't being taken into account. I
thought we had pretty strong feedback in November that the quality of the
shirts that were demo'ed was not sufficient (e.g. thin material). One is
unlikely to get shirts that are worn by most rather than wasted so it
doesn't make sense to spend even more money to get to an acceptable quality
level and have the hassle of matching sizes to people. (Even when you ask
people to state their size at registration, some will find that they aren't
happy with the size they got and want to trade it in due to size variations
amongst brands.)

The motion in November wasn't specifically for shirts. It included other
options such as badge holders. I would vote for a budget option that had a
reasonable expenditure on memorabilia particularly if it was of a type
likely to get used (e.g. badge holder or badge lanyard plus a good sized
memory stick).

Anniversary

Folks,

Paul has authorized the following motion for your consideration.

Motion:
To approve the use of an additional $15,000 for expenditures relating
to the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of IEEE 802. This amount,
in addition to the previously approved $15,000 results in a total
budgeted expenditure of $30,000 for this purpose.

Moved:  John Hawkins
Seconded: Buzz Rigsbee

Start of ballot: Thursday 4th February, 2010
Close of ballot: Sunday 14th February, 2010, 11:59PM EDT

Early close: As required in subclause 3.1.2.2 'Electronic Balloting of
the IEEE project 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee (LMSC) Operations
Manual, this is notice that this ballot may close early once
sufficient responses are received to clearly decide a matter.

Rationale:
We had originally discussed a $30,000 line item (during the EC
workshop in San Francisco), but made an oversight in Atlanta by only
approving the amount for the shirts ($15,000). As it turns out, even
this was not sufficient for the shirts in the quantities we need. (
$2,500 additional is required there). Finally, we would like to set
aside $12,500 to fund T&L for a few invited speakers, 802 logo badge
holders, anniversary graphics/banners, a cake for the social, etc...

If possible, please vote sooner rather than later so we can get moving
on the implementation. Questions? Send them along as usual.
