802.3 has reviewed 2 802.1 new project packages, 802.1Qbv and 802.1Qbu.
Our only comments are on the 5 Criteria for 802.1Qbu
Please consider the following:
*Compatibility*
Change the current text from:
"This project will be coordinated with 802.3 project that may
enhance MAC service interface."
To:
"This project will be coordinated with proposed new work in 802.3.
That work may result in a 802.3 project that would enhance MAC
service interface in support of this facility.
This enhancement of a link will interoperate with existing networks."
*Distinct Identity*
Change the current text from:
"There is no IEEE 802 based solution that improves latency to be
better than transmit of urgent frame after a lower-priority frame."
To:
"There is no IEEE 802 based solution for a single link that improves
latency to be better than transmit of urgent frame after a
lower-priority frame."
*Technical Feasibility*
Change the current text from:
"General fragmentation and on-demand fragmentation has been used in
other networking and dedicated links in the past and today in both
software and hardware based systems.."
To:
"This standard is based on mature virtual LAN bridging and transmit
selection and scheduling. General fragmentation and reassembly has
been demonstrated in large volume production of (for example)
PROFINET(tm) based systems."
