A quick workaround for entry is to save it as .ods, then it ignores the validity setting.

However, I have never heard of Roman numerals for line numbers.  Does that really happen?  Probably the line number column should be simply checked for whole numbers.

Apparently the issue is that OpenOffice does not support the "Custom" 
form of Data Validation.
