We have received further confirmation today from the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) that entry into Thailand for the IEEE meeting is indeed as a Tourist.   Below is the email I received today to confirm this.  We will add this clear information to the website so that there is no confusion:

Please find attached Fact Sheet for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions)travelers which was released by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Labour, Immigration Bureau, and TCEB.

May I quote an important clause for your correct information:

“Foreigners entering Thailand for MICE without the purposes of being employed or working for income, but being event attendants will be regarded as tourists under the definition of Tourism Authority of Thailand Act of B.E. 2522 (1979).”

”.

For more information, please see Summary of Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival to Thailand
