Re: [802SEC] IEEE Fellowship Exchange program

Hello Glen,

I think this is a really good idea,  Kudos to you for making it happen.

I’ll help where I can.   We have a schedule of events on Sundays:

2:00pm – 802.11 exec

4:00-5:30 – Wireless Chairs SC

6:00-7:30 – 802.11 CAC

??7:30pm-late?? 802 rules ad-hoc

If necessary we could move the 802.11 exect.

Perhaps a lunch meeting on the Sunday?

Best Regards,

Adrian P STEPHENS

Hi Glenn,

I think that having the interested officials come is great.

I am happy to assist, but we have meetings on Sunday evening that would preclude some of the EC from participation.

I do not know of another time to make a dinner work other than a Tuesday evening possibly (from my schedule) but others will surely have problems with that date as well.

I applaud the direction, but have concerns with a plan for reception on Sunday.

my .02

Jon

Colleagues,

I have been working with IEEE-SA staff on a fellowship exchange program to bring government representatives to IEEE meetings.  ITU and even IETF has been doing this for years – the goal is to simply make them comfortable with the IEEE standards process and the volunteers that make it happen.  This will hopefully increase support for IEEE standards by the governments that attend.

I am pleased to indicate that IEEE-SA will start a trial fellowship program at the upcoming November IEEE 802 plenary meeting.  This will be full funded by IEEE-SA to support 2-4 government attendees as well as a staff coordinator.  The ask from us is to identify mentors to guide these attendees to the right meetings, and also to help with any questions they might have.  There is also the plan for a welcome dinner/event on the Sunday before when the EC would be invited to mingle with these folks.

The selection process this time will be seeded using the IETF fellowship alumni list.  We will select some folks that have already attended IETF and have expressed interest in IEEE 802.

I will send around more information when it is available.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Glenn.
