[802SEC] IEEE 802.3cg draft PAR and CSD response - 10 Mb/s Single Twisted Pair Ethernet

Dear EC members,

In support of subclause 9.2 'IEEE 802 LMSC Approval' of the LMSC Operations Manual please find below the required information in respect to the IEEE 802.3cg Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for 10 Mb/s Operation over Single Balanced Twisted-pair Cabling and Associated Power Delivery PAR for consideration at the November 2016 plenary.

Best regards,

[1] Draft PAR and CSD responses:

Draft PAR: <>
CSD responses: <>

[2] Explanatory technical background material:

Applications such as those used in automotive and automation industries have begun the transition of legacy networks to Ethernet. This has generated a need for a 10 Mb/s solution which will operate over single balanced twisted-pair cabling. IEEE 802.3 does not currently support 10 Mb/s over a single twisted-pair medium, and therefore a reduction in the number of wire pairs and magnetics required for 10 Mb/s twisted-pair Ethernet will provide a basis for an optimized solution in these applications.

[3] Status of the development of the PAR:

The draft PAR and CSD responses are pending IEEE 802.3 Working Group approval at the November 2016 plenary.

Since the submission deadline for the December 2016 NesCom meeting occurs prior to the date of the November IEEE 802 EC meeting, I have pre-submit this draft PAR to NesCom on the understanding that:

[a] Any changes to the draft PAR text resulting from the Plenary will be promptly communicated to the NesCom Administrator.
[b] Should the IEEE 802.3 Working Group not approve the submission, it will be removed from the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee and NesCom agenda.
[c] Should the IEEE 802 LMSC Executive Committee not approve the submission, it will be removed from the NesCom agenda.

This email is sent from the 802 Executive Committee email reflector. This list is maintained by Listserv.
