Re: [802SEC] EC Motion to forward the 802.22a and 802.22b ISO/IEC/JTC1 FDIS 60 Day Ballot Comment Resolutions

Hi, Apu.

Congratulations on the approval of your motions today.

In the interests of progressing future motions, I'd like to better understand a few things about 802.22 WG ballots:

(1) The 802.22 web site <http://ieee802.org/22> has a tab labeled "Membership List" that identifies 31 individuals as "IEEE 802.22 Working Group Voting Members." I believe that, on the call, you said that this was an accurate membership list. Can you confirm? Were all of these individuals invited to participate in the WG ballots referenced below?

(2) Does 802.22 use an email reflector? If so, is it notified of WG ballots?

(3) The 802.22 web site has a tab labeled "Ongoing Ballots," but the only two on the list seem to be old. Is there another place where you document ballot results?

Thanks,

Roger

Dear EC,

In regards to the EC Motion to forward the 802.22a and 802.22b ISO/IEC/JTC1 FDIS 60 Day Ballot Comment Resolutions, the Working Group conducted a Letter Ballot to correct the process missteps (please see my explanation below). Both the motions passed.

Given that the process missteps have now been corrected, we would like to bring this motion back to the EC for approval, either during the October 4th telecon or via an e-mail ballot once the Chair of the 802 grants us permission.

The updated motion package may be found attached to this e-mail.

Dear EC Members

I talked to Paul and some of you over the last few days.

I would like thank everyone for taking the time to review the 802.22 motion at the EC meeting last Friday and to apologize for the  process missteps that made it impossible to approve. Special thanks to Bob and Subir, as well as Andew Myles and Peter Yee.

Our plan is to affirm the action via an email ballot of the WG and bring it back to the EC.

In the mean while, I am pleased to report that 802.22 is starting to gain traction in the market place as regulations progress in the US and the rest of the world. First 802.22 device is likely to go for FCC certification in the near future.

Likewise, work on the 802.22.3 Project is also gaining momentum, with the US Government (NTIA and NIST) interested in this activity, and also we are getting some new companies out of South Africa, Canada and Europe being involved.  At this point, I expect we will see growing participation at 2 out 3 Plenary Sessions. This is primarily driven by the number of meetings participants are able to attend each year. The third will be smaller, at least for now, but going forward we will ensure we are at all Plenaries.

Again, thanks for your comments and guidance.

Regards

Apurva
